It's cold out there every day

Braving the onset of a Canadian winter

Toronto's ongoing skyrise projects hadn't slipped past our attention - indeed far from it. By now the mercury was starting to drop in readiness for a typically cold Canadian winter. Despite the temperature and bitter winds we aspired to be up there above the city, if only for a short while. Accordingly on several occasions our group of varying number chose unwatched sections of wooden hoarding to clamber over before creeping inside the bases of 50 storey tower blocks. Trying to maintain this silence we continued up the stairs past small site offices, bare concrete rooms and unfinished apartments, up to where the sounds of the roads fell away leaving only the soft roar of the breeze.

As I'm sure to write about again there's something calming and surreal about having a high rooftop to yourself and your friends on a clear night. The city continues on as it always does but now you're far removed from it, almost like an invisible observer viewing the whole show through some kind of vast skylight...

The title to this post was a caption given by q-x to his awesome shot of the Toronto skyline which is, alas, no longer online.
